Distant Relatives
Release Date: May 18, 2010
International Hip Hop superstar Nas and Grammy-winning artist Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley join creative forces to release this highly anticipated and exciting 2010 collaboration. This is an album created by the two serious artists to explore and celebrate the correlations and deep-rooted connections between reggae and Hip Hop, tracing both sounds back to the African motherland that is both the cradle of humanity and the wellspring of mankind's music. The project features the signature instrumentation and musicianship of Marley with the hard-hitting beats and lyrics of Nas. Distant Relatives traces the direct line from Dancehall Reggae's breakthrough moment 40 years ago to the rise of Hip Hop several years later.
I was just curious what ya'll thought of the album. Personally I think Nas is one of the best rappers out there. This album - for a change - is a rarity in that nearly every track is worth listening to.

Yeah crisp...They came through Humboldt Co..not too long ago and performed the entire album set....I had goosebumps the whole time and was dancin like a motherfucker...Also kicked both them down some fresh ganj after the set...
A+ on this collab...Nas cemented himself as my favorite hiphop artist of all time who is still performing

I'm still a big fan of Nas, though admittedly he hasn't put out anything quite as good as Illmatic in a long time, maybe this one Distant Relatives...He got a bit "preachy" and belligerent for awhile there, but I've always thought he was one of the better hip hop artists out there.

He's got a good style and flow but you're very right. He got on my fucking nerves after a while and hadn't put out much. I actually don't mind this album too much. I fell out of the rap game a long time ago though. I can't deal w/ this new shit. Once Master P came out and showed people all you need is a janky beat w/ a generic catch phrase to make money, I knew it was all down hill. People got dollar signs instead of writing legit shit. There's a few decent left though. Nas is one. Royce 5'9" is tight. Probably one of the most underrated rappers out there. Slaughterhouse is pretty good also if you like that type of stuff. Good underground hip hop also like P.O.S. and Common Market if you dig that.
I wish it was the early/mid 90's when rap was real tight.

Nas goes from one of the best alive to one of the hardest to respect or care about and back again a lot. This release is pretty damn solid though.
