Raiders get second coming of Lott-Tatum
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, April 25th, 2009 at 6:33 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Tom Cable said he didn’t want to put too much pressure on second-round draft pick Mike Mitchell, but then went ahead and did it anyway, comparing his hitting ability to Ronnie Lott and Jack Tatum.
So the Raiders got a wide receiver who is the next Randy Moss, and a safety to be compared with with two of the most fearsome hitters of all time.
And of course, the Raiders got exactly who they wanted.
In this case, there is no reason to doubt them.
Mitchell, until a few weeks ago, was so obscure he doesn’t have a bio listed on the NFL Draft Tracker on NFL.com or on the extensive list by compiled by Sportsxchange. The Sportsxchange lists 30 prospects at free safety and 32 at strong safety, and Mitchell’s name is not listed. There are 728 prospect in all, and Mitchel lis not listed.
Mel Kiper Jr.’s pre-draft book lists him as the 40th-ranked safety.
The Raiders didn’t even have a biography to pass out before Cable met with the press.
But Mitchell, as Cable indicated, did pick up steam. He visited 15 teams, and the Chicago Bears were believed to be particularly interested.
At his Pro Day workout, Mitchell was 6-foot, 221 pounds, ran a 4.43 40-yard dash, had 21 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press and had a 37.5 inch vertical leap.
“A very, very physical guy,” Cable said. And it just so happens he can fly. Another good pick for us.”
A conference call with Mitchell is to follow.

I read many publications that didn't even have this guy being drafted;
Mel Kiper is usually soft as the rest of ESPN on draft day but even he laughed at the Raiders pick
Bey was never a great college WR and Mitchell was an ok college player. This may be the worst draft day in the history of the RAiders.
Al can still build a good team though; unfortunately that team is in San Francisco. unreal.

Thats just so sad to think about but its true. Even with the guys we have drafted in the past marinovich, gallery, huff, etc. etc. this one really just takes the cake.

I'm not saying he can't be good...but it is ridiculous to pick this guy in the 2nd rd when he could have been there in the 4th. We could of got another good player and then him later on. For his sake he better play very good this year.

Whatever. I've consigned myself to the fact this team will be nothing more than a joke in the league untill...... well, you know.
I'm almost pissed at myself for letting myself have some hope for this season. It's just more of the same old bullshit that has plagued this team for the last 6 years... now 7. Fuck it. I'll continue to root for them, as I always do, but I'm done being pissed off about anything this organization does, says, intimates, insinuates, signs, cuts, drafts, etc.................. I'll hold my enthusiasm for better days. The organization doesn't care, why should I?

I agree S&B this :shit: has been going on for years and nothing is going to change. Al will never change! I'm going to DVR all the games next season and go out with my woman on Sunday and have a good time. If the Raiders win I'll come home and watch the game If not I'll delete it. Thanks to Al the Raiders are not that important anymore.

One of the great minds in the NFL, Mr. Davis, now is so insecure he surrounds himself with yes men and flunkies.
Ron Wolf he listened to; but he's gone; now he listens to no one and drafts depending on size and speed;
It's beyond ridiculous;
I now officially have given up hope; If I go to the games it will be for social reasons and I'll cheer them, but anyone thinking that drafting 5 bench players is going to help this team is a bigger lemming than Cable himself.
Lets see? yes lets see.
