I saw Observe and Report, I thought it was hilarious. It got a bit slow in the middle, but I thought it was really funny. It was different than Rogen's usual roles, it was more dark, edgier. It's just a different kind of comedy, more shocking than what people are probably used to. Jody Hill is a really funny director - he directed this independent flick called The Foot Fist Way. That is a funny ass movie too, starring Danny McBride.
And I didn't really find it that depressing; if you want depressing, see 7 Pounds. I understand what you mean, but I think the movie presents what might be depressing in your average movie in a different way, and makes it funny.

I saw Adventureland a few weeks ago, and they marketed that movie completely wrong. They kept saying "From the Director of Superbad," trying to make it sound like it's going to be the next Superbad. It's just not that type of movie. Superbad was hilarious and I really liked it, but Adventureland is completely different. It's an indie movie, about having a job that sucks ass - most people can probably relate. It's a really well-done movie, with a lot of surprisingly good acting and it surprised the hell out of me.
Wolverine needed more Deadpool and Gambit...it was pretty good though.
I also saw Earth...it was kinda boring at some parts, but it wasn't that bad I guess.

Here's the basic plot, even though it's so much more than this..: Abdel, a local hoodlum, is hospitalized after a riot, where a policeman lost his gun. His friend Vinz finds it and claims he will kill a cop if Abdel dies.

I enjoyed the new Transformers. The thing you gotta remember is it's a Michael Bay film. He isn't making a movie centering around character development and a perfect plot line...he doesn't give a fuck, as long as the audience is entertained. I thought it was good, probably as good as the first, definitely not better though.

Watchmen could have been a good movie, but they tried to make the heros too human. A lot of things wrong... like what was Miss Jupiter's power? What was The Comedian's power? What was The Owl's power? All they did was slap people around. The only character that was explained, and actually had some kind of power, was John. I guess the guy that was trying to take over the world was super fast? How did he get that way? The whole thing was just a bunch of hype... it sucked.

The fact that most didn't have a "power" is what made it a popular comic book (classic) Like BatMan... just a guy in a cape.
Personally I loved The Comedian, the thin veil between good & evil is often blurred by ones own perspective. Humans ARE animals.

I'm not sure why they promoted it as a comedy. The movie is not a comedy when you consider the elements and themes in the movie.
Sandler is funny, but I like some of the other actors better.
"Just saw Harry Potter. Harry is getting old man, has some series man titties."
"How the fuck do you expect go get laid making up jokes about farts and jacking off."
"I have a tiny vagina."

In the romantic sense of the word "comedy", technically it's closer to being a drama than a comedy.
Essentially, they don't get married or, at the least, end up together.
So it's a comedic movie, but probably a bit closer to a drama in that sense.
Regardless, it's a good movie and I thought it was really funny and well-directed, with a great story and some awesome characters. It drags on a bit at the end and probably could have been shortened, but overall I thought it was really good.

At first I think drama, but I think it leans on both sides. If it would have ended with them being together, then what? I don't know. What I do know, and care for...was that the movie didn't bore me and was prett damn funny.
Def. worth my $10 I spent and that's a rare occasion with how many movies just don't cut it. Good enough for me. I'll probably buy it, actually. Collect a lot of comedies...

Saw Bill Maher's documentary about organized religion called "Religulous" the other week, which is a clever play on the words "religious" and "ridiculous". Bill circumnavigates the world interviewing Christians, Jews, Catholics, Mormons and Muslims and asks them pertinent questions about their religious beliefs. It's really amazing how many people actually know very little about the religion they practice and preach. Bill Maher, who's a self-proclaimed atheist/agnostic, seems to comprehend and know more about religion than alot of the people he interviews. Very interesting and I definitely recommend it.

PA found me saying "THAT'S IT?!?" when the lights came on at the end of the film, but overall a decent movie and has some very interesting scenes that entertained and creeped me out a little.
BTW, anyone looking for a good movie (or two) to rent, go get STAR TREK & FUNNY PEOPLE.

Funny People I loved. Mainly because I am a beginner (comic) and it's inspiring yet funny at the same time. Sandler delivers in this one for sure. Rogen makes it that much more better.

the last few movies I've seen are:
"The Orphan" - good. This movie was fuckin' twisted as fuck. But I realized what the girl was about half way through the movie.
"G.I. Joe" - ok, they went a little overboard with the special effects & fucked up Cobra, so I was pissed. But I liked it. They better do a sequel!
"Star Trek" - It was Great, I don't know shit about Star Trek, just a bit. But this movie was pretty phat.
"Public Enemys" - Awesome!
"Terminator Salvation" - ok, I'm a big fan of Christian Bale's work. But this had too much politics in it for a action/sci-fi movie. Special effects were too much at times.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" - sucked! This movie was just stupid in every aspect. I'm not in to Transformers, I wasn't as a kid either. But nonetheless this movie sucked.

Avatar must be seen in the theatre, and the DVD must come with some crazy 3D capabilities, because the movie itself is really lame, the plot is awful, and the dialogue sounds like they consulted the writers of Point Break.
I'm really stoked that, all these months later, The Hurt Locker is finally getting love. If you haven't seen it, you're missing a really good, tense film with a great script and outstanding acting.

1. Let the Right One In - Oscar, a 12-year-old fragile and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl he befriends, who moves into his building. When Oscar discovers that Eli is a vampire it does not deter his increasing feelings and confused emotions toward Eli. Swedish movie, so it's subtitled.
2. The Orphanage - Atmospheric Spanish supernatural thriller about a husband and wife who decide to buy the wife's childhood orphanage with the hopes of opening a home for special-needs children. Their idyllic life is interrupted once they start noticing strangely peculiar occurences around the orpahanage and that their little son suddenly has quite a few imaginary playmates. Or are they imaginary? Very moody and effective film. One of the best "horror" movies I've seen in a long, long time. Also subtitled.
3. The Children - A family anticipates a Christmas filled with sledding, laughter and hot cocoa as they head to their vacation home in the secluded backcountry…The holiday cheer takes a fast turn for the worse after a mysterious flu-like virus sweeps through the kids. One by one the children become deadly. Amidst the suspicion, mayhem and murder, the parents fight for survival against their own twisted offspring. If you like creepy kid movies, you'll like this one.

^^^ I want to see all three of those!!
The lines for Avatar are still way too long. I'd like to see a 3-D movie, but I'm not going to wait in line for this one.

It's movie screener season so I'm downloading them or hitting up friends in the Academy to borrow. I'll watch The White Ribbon at some point this weekend, then probably Precious next week.
Hill, i have bad news for you: there will be a couple more sequels to AVATAR. Camerson has already stated that he has a sequel in place if the movie does well. Furthermore, relating back to sequels, from what i read, he plans to explore different planets (1 planet per sequel)

Supposedly, the plan was always to make it a trilogy.

I dunno, maybe I'm too forgiving but I loved Avatar. The story is simple and predictable, but IMO, this type of movie doesn't need a complex story line. A movie like Avatar is telling a story as much visually as vocally. Not all movies are meant to, or need to, be composed of social purpose, sophisticated scripts or true-to-life acting.
Cameron created a world. His story is told in the visuals, the music and the technology. Now, that doesn't mean everyone has to enjoy it, but knowing what you are going to see and setting reallistic expectations will often help you enjoy the movie.
There certainly was nothing deep or new about the story. We've seen these basic precepts told over and over again in different styles. At the same time, as a story and experience, Avatar certainly is unique and worth watching in my opinion.

Finally saw Hurt Locker and it is one of the best limited release movies ever I would put it right up there with Memento as far as originality goes. I also saw the Lovely Bones and it is alright more for the teenage and female crowd, but it was watchable.

Yeah I would tend to agree..there have been worse vampire flicks.
Daybreakers and Lost Boys rank on the top of my list, I was just hoping for maybe just a LITTLE more.
I was either going to see Daybreakers or Book Of Eli, but I heard it was a dissapointment in terms of how much action there really is...
but w/e.
I think I'm warming up to seeing Legion though. Quaid and Gibson makes me want to go see it..they were good together in 'Flight Of The Phoenix'
I'm gonna check around for some reviews and opinions on that one when it comes out Fri.

There's also a werewolf movie coming out soon - I saw the trailer the other day. I don't remember the name, but I think Benicio del Toro plays the werewolf.

you're thinking of Vampires by John Carpenter. That movie is pretty borderline, I just watched it recently and thought it was good as well up until that.
Dusk til Dawn and Lost Boys are top 2 I guess, Daybreakers fits in though.
That 30 days of night I turned off it was so bad.

I liked 30 Days of Night.
it wasn't Max Payne bad, but I remember trying to watch it on the computer and it was slow and I got bored with the plot.
But Max Payne I turned off 20min in. Funny, cause I was about to rent this movie at the store a month ago and this guy asks if they have a copy of Max Payne, and I say "You don' want to watch that"
then he says "I've already seen it. It's a great movie." I had to hold back my laughter. That movie SUCKED

Daybreakers a decent, not great flick worth watching especially if you dig vampire flicks.
You should check out the swedish film, "let the right one in." I saw it a while ago and is more of a coming of age flick with a twist. I saw the subtitled version, but I am sure there is a dubbed version by now if you are not a fan of subtitles. It is an original movie not as great as all the hype that surrounds it, but it is a very nice movie nonetheless.

I loved 20 days of Night thought that was very scary those vamps were brutal.
I did watch "The Road" it was very good yet disturbing and depressing I'm glad it sort of had a happy ending.
I watched "The Book Of Eli", I loved it Denzel is a total pimp in that movie it also has Jackie from the 70's show in it, I almost didn't recognize her without her whiney voice. The movie made me want to read the Bible again.
I loved "Daybreakers" I thought it was genius as far a Vampire movies are concerned the acting was great too, it was not scary just very clever I thought.

Just watched the worst movie I have ever seen the other night. "Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun Li".
Not only did this movie suck in every aspect of moving making, but get this... THERE'S LIKE NO STREET FIGHTER CHARACTERS IN THE FUCKIN' MOVIE!!!!! There was like 3 characters from the game. The acting was terrible, the cast was terrible, special effects were terrible, the portrayal of the characters was terrible. everything was terrible!
