No doubt...If he doesnt show strides this year hes gonna be real close to buster status. He needs to grow up and just be the qb he was drafted to be.
Ill say again, the only diamonds he should be chasing are the ones put on super bowl rings!

You would hope he would only care about that SB ring but this fucker likes to stunt and show off his bling. All good but only if he backs it up on the field.

Russell finished with a three-game run in which the Raiders went 2-1 and he completed 62 percent of his passes (49 of 78) to go with six touchdowns and two interceptions.
that was a good thing to read..hopefully it translates into next season as well.
if that kind of pace (doubtful) would be kept up for a season..he'd have 30+ TD's

After bitch ass Harris got bum slapped to the bench, the offense improved drastically. Russell shows flashes with time to throw, he just needs to learn how to throw a screen pass!

That's the biggest thing we need to see improvement on. I think this is an important year in his development, but next year will be most important IMO. What I want to see is improved footwork, better reads through his progressions, and a better sense of the weak-side blitz. If he improves on those 3 things, I have no doubt he will be successful. Getting ride of Kimmy Harris will certainly help the 3rd one!

exactly...upgrading those two tackle spots is vital in JRs progression......I really do think Cable knows what hes doing with this Oline and he will turn this around....With time to sit in the pocket JR will do some things this upcoming season

I hope so, Russell needs a primary target. Not only does Russell need to step up, but the wide receivers too. There should be no excuse for the tight end to have more catches than the receiver

He better..he had a year and a half of "first year nerves'
I agree w/the rest of the guys this is going to be his make or break season. I hope he can pull thru and getter done!
I am willing to bet he imroves upon his performances last year with the coaching continuity, the imrovements to the O-line, another camp under his belt with familiar faces, and a better qb coach. Dont sleep on hackett, boy, he will whip big boy into shape, if he's willing to work hard.
Sky is the limit for Russell in terms of talent, the big question is can he proccess the information on the field fast enough to become a high percentage, low mistake QB..That will be the key factor in if the Raiders can become a legit playoff team while he's under center

The only skill set that j-mar has shown is a physical one. He still lacks pocket presence goes down quicker then a hooker on a friday night. Come on homie put the pata-moblie in gear and rush that first down marker. He also needs to make big strides in q.b misinformation, meaning don't telegraph where your going to throw, motherfucker has his high beams on the receiver like a crackfiend looks for a dropped piece of rock on a white carpet. Safeties live off weak q.b's....so j-mar "STEP YOUR GAME UP" Ice don't mean a thing unless you got that Superbowl ring!!!:Yep
JaMarcus has no more excuses and I ain't listening to nobody make excuses for him no more. Its time to show the world why he was drafted number 1 overall. Period. This year I expect him to show leadership on and off the field and make plays to help this team win games, dammit.
Stop throwing 80mph fast balls at RBs feet on screen plays and shit.

Good post. Those are the major concerns for me too, man. I swear Knapp and Kiff put the blinders on that boy. He does stare down his targets, especially on the design plays where he has no progressions to read, like McFadden on the swing out. The corners would read that play so damn quick they'd practically be hitting him beofre the ball was there.
And for such a big boy, he does go down like a soft puppy, and be holdin that ball too low and just waiting to fumble. Fortunately, these are things that good coaching and experience can fix.

The dude hasnt had any type of confidence while hes played with the silver and black. Looking at his days in LSU the dude had all the confidence in the world. When you have Kwame Fxckin Harris and Cornell sorry xss Green on both sides im sure not even Tom Brady or Peyton would feel comfortable in the pocket. Not making excuses for the guy but i feel thats a big part of his development. Just look at how he played when Mario was put in at left tackle the last few games. We shall see this upcoming season but i just hope he shows some improvement and I think he will with better tackle play...

I agree, that there won't be excuses for Russell this year. Cable will still be calling the plays carrying over from last season, and he seemed to find a bit of a groove near the end. The o-line is better simply by dumping fuckin Kwame Harris' punk ass. Plus it is a virtual lock we take a WR early in the draft, hopefully Crabtree. The running game should get back on track and if McFadden lays off the turf toe he should make an impact.
No more excuses. Jamarcus must improve and play well this year.....and I think he will.
Hey, I ain't with the "no excuses, put up this year" deal.
He was drafted as a project QB and only has one full year under his belt. Granted he was a #1 overall, but still drafted as a project.
Add in the mix a new OC and system. You can't call him a bust for at least another 2 years IMO.
A stride is all I am asking for.

Right now j-mar has the intelligence of a dump truck. When did we classify him a project q.b??? He was drafted with the intent he would be our future q.b for many years to come. A project q.b doesnt get that kind of label put on him. Right about now hes more like a project ho. And whether or not he's learning a new play book..so what!!! Thats a ready made excuse if he fails. It's obvious then that hes not the type of q.b with the intelligence/skill set to succeed in the NFL. Flaco & Ryan had succeess with learning the gamebook/ game. Rookies yo!!! J-mar gets no room to move anymore...Shit I GOT A BROKEN WATCH THATS GETS IT RIGHT TWICE A DAY...Put up or shut up!!!!

Im not giving excuses cuz Ive been pretty critical of his growth so far and even question his work ethic. Add in that shit along with a new offense to learn and he could either sink or swim this year. He needs to get his shit together and be the qb he was drafted to be, hands down...no argument there from anyone.

I think alot of pressure has been lifted off of Russell with Denver acquiring Orton. ......I dont think Russell will have to worry about being the worst QB in the division. I dont see Orton being any good with Denver, if he remains the starting QB there.

Since when was he labeled a project qb?
Answer: when he was drafted 1st overall by Allen Davis
Again...... Flaco had one of the NFL's best defenses and Matt Ryan had the #2 rushing attack in the NFL and Roddy White to boot...
Comparing Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco to Jamarcus Russell is apples and oranges....

mental fortitude is a character trait that j-mar is lacking. I'm sure having a spotty o-line hasnt helped his confidence. Granted the last couple of games it seemed like a light clicked in his head. If the guy is willing to put in as much work into improving his game as he does making sure he looks so fresh and clean in his fur coats with bling draped on his person...we wouldnt be having this discussion....we'd be like rick james, cause it would be a celebration!!!!

Damn JAYEL why you so hard on my boi? Russell is on his second head coach and fourth OC in three years. On a normal NFL team the QB, HC & OC work together as a team for a few years along with a vet backup QB to bring the young QB up to par. Russell has had none of this who is he suppose to learn from Tui? Walter? I'm not taking up for Russell but being a QB under these conditions makes it very hard for a young QB to succeed. And why are so many people hating on Russell over his bling and Fur coats? He don't wear that sh*t on the field so it should not matter. He can afford it and its his bizzness not ours.

How do you know that Russell is lacking mental fortitude? You don't no, none of use do. I've never heard anyone but the media and Raider fans question his mental abilities. I've heard Cable say he needs to step up and lead the team but nothing else. Russell is young and still has a long way to go. Give the man some time.

That's very true Bump, these two quarterbacks had support all around them for them to succeed the way they have. Atlanta had a great rush attack and Baltimore had a physical defense. We are lacking the supporting cast for Russell, but this offseason the o-line has been addressed, so we'll see where we stand after it's all said and done.

I do agree he has basically been set up to fail with Al's turnstyle coaching situation and mis-management of his situation since drafted. BUT he has to show that he can be mature enough to overcome that make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
As far as him flashing around, he can do all that as long as he backs it on the field. I seriously want to see a COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE from him by working his ass off on and off the field. I dont see the best QBs in the game going around flashing and stunting...I only hear about how committed they are to being the best QBs they can be and making their teams better. We as paying fans deserve that from our #1 overall pick, future of the franchise QB. If he puts in the work and time to learn defenses and master his position, put wins on the board, then he can wear a diamond studded jock strap for all I care!

Yeah the Ryan and Flacco comparison isnt a fair one at all. The last 6 years have been disaster in Oakland. We went from ZERO offensive structure to some. Its not like Russell stepped in and took over the Patriots offense.
